Bearing habit of fruit trees
On the basis of position of flower buds and bearing habit the fruit trees are of following types:
- Terminal fruit bud develops to inflorescence without leaves for example in mango and loquat.
- Terminal fruit bud develops to leafy shoots with axillary flowers or flower clusters for example in guava.
- Terminal fruit bud develops to leafy shoots terminating in flower clusters for example in apple and pear.
- Lateral fruit bud develops to flowers without any leaves for example in citrus, papaya, date, coconut, plum, peach, almond, and cherry.
- Lateral fruit bud develops to leafy shoots with axillary clusters of flower for example ber, avocado, mulberry, and persimmon.
- Lateral fruit bud develops to leafy shoots termination in flower cluster for example grapes, cashew nut, raspberry, and blackberry.
- Both terminal and lateral fruit buds are present but terminal fruit bud develops to inflorescence for example in walnut.
- Adventitious fruit bud on stem develops to inflorescence or flower for example in cocoa and jack fruit.
