Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations permit blending of two edible oils provided the any edible vegetable oil used to blend is not less than 20 percent by weight but from June 8, 2021 onward the mixing of any edible oil with mustard oil is banned which will give opportunity to consumers to purchase pure mustard oil and farmers to get better price of mustard seeds. In India, the mustard oil industry size is about Rs 40,000 at current price. According to second advance estimates of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Government of India, there would be record production of 10.43 million ton of mustard seeds in 2020-21.
